Mount Horeb Summer Frolic
Carnival opens 5pm Thurs
@ Grundahl Park, Mount Horeb
The Mount Horeb Summer Frolic consists of carnival
rides, live entertainment, a bean bag toss tournament, a
dog show & more! Fireworks are set for Saturday at
10pm, and a parade travels down Main Street at Noon
on Sunday.

St John's Parish Festival,

Sun @ 9am - 3pm
Several kid-friendly activities, from inflatable fun & photo
booths, to art stations & music by a DJ; also food tents,
game tent, a Fun Run, live music, craft fair & bake sale.
Deerfield Firemen's Festival
Carnival opens 5pm Friday
@ Deerfield Firemens Park
Activities include a carnival midway, kiddie tractor pull,
softball & baseball games, live music in the evening, a
kids water fight. Details are currently posted on the
Facebook page of the Deerfield Volunteer Fire

Safety Saturday

The City of Madison Fire Department, in collaboration of
over 25 public and private organizations throughout
Dane County hosts the Safety Saturday event each year.
Interactive displays and exhibits provide attendees with
hands-on learning opportunities.
MCM's SummerPalooza
10am - 2pm
@ Madison Children's Museum
The SummerPalooza features free museum admission
all day, outdoor performances/entertainment, activity
stations and a kids parade on the Capitol Square at
Food Cart Cinema
@ Winnequah Park, Monona
Food carts will start serving at 6:00 pm and the movie
(TBD) will begin at dusk, approx 8:45 pm. Enjoy some
great food, and listen to music from the era of the movie
while you wait.

Strawberry Fest

In addition to 1,000 quarts of fresh strawberries, come
out to find a craft sale, kids race, used book sale,
strawberry themed treats available, raffle drawings and

the festival.
Junior Gardener Workshop
10am - 11am
@ Bruce Company, Middleton
Learn about insects that are good to have in the garden.
An insect puppet show will explain two different insect
life cycles. Junior Gardeners will play a pollination game
and plant morning glory flowers to take home.

Make Music Madison

More than 380 artists will be performing on stages,
street corners, parks & other venues throughout the
Greater Madison area! Find a complete schedule on the

Pop's Knoll Father's Day
11am - 2pm
@ Donald Park, Mount Horeb
Bring your Pop to Pop's Knoll! This annual Father's Day
event take place in the Pop's Knoll picnic area. Bring a
picnic or grill out, or purchase a hot dog & root beer float.
There will be activities for all ages, self-guided hiking,
and live music by Bluegrass Tea & Company.

Oregon Summer Fest

A few highlights include: Fireworks at dusk Thursday;
Summer Fest Classic Run/Walk (10K, 5K & 2 Mile) at
9am Saturday; parade on Sunday at 12:30pm. See

Cross Plains World's Fair

Carnival & midway opens at 5pm Friday. A run/walk,
more activities and kids entertainment scheduled for

Shake the Lake will set off fireworks over Lake Monona
near Monona Terrace, after a night of live music, and
other entertainment throughout the Event Zone (Law
Park near Monona Terrace), along with scheduled
performances on the Rooftop ($15 tickets available).

in advance, but often revised or late-notice

Recurring Activities
Spring 2015
This list includes recurring, seasonal or year-
round programs for children in Dane County.

American Family Dream Bank
DreamBank is a one-of-a-kind dream exploration
space on the square in Downtown Madison. The
DreamBank experience includes interactive
technology, thought-provoking exhibits, and inspiring
events, all of which are free and open to the general
public. Come by for Family Saturdays each week to
see what activities will educate & inspire your kids!

Home Depot Kids Workshop
Drop-in 9am to Noon the 1st Saturday every month for
a FREE "how-to" clinic for kids (recommended ages 5
to 12). Real woodworking projects are often themed
around seasons & holidays. These year round
workshops are intended to encourage one-on-one
time with adults and children, teach tool safety, and
give children the sense of accomplishment.
Home Depot (Verona Rd only) also offers the
workshop on the 3rd Saturdays - for those that missed
earlier in the month.

Kids in the Rotunda
Enjoy free performances in a relaxed, kid-friendly
environment every Saturday from the end of
September through April. Shows offered at 9:30,
11am, and 1pm (sign-language interpreted at 1pm).
The series takes place on the Rotunda Stage in the
Overture Center on State Street in downtown Madison.

Michael's Kids Club
Drop-in 10am to Noon on Saturdays at your local
Michaels store, kids can make a take-home project
for $2 fee. Craft sessions begin every 30 minutes, for
ages 3 & up. Projects are often themed around
holidays and seasons. Pick up a store calendar for
the Kids Club schedule & other event.

Rocky Rococo Family Movies
Rocky's Party Pizzeria's East & West show movies on
their big screen throughout the week,
daytimes/eve's/wknds (see location for times.) Movies
are rated 'G' or 'PG', it's a fun way to get out of the
house and enjoy lunch or dinner with a kid-friendly
movie in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Saturday Science at Discovery
A monthly series that consists of free science
exploration and education programs aimed at
families and learners of all ages. These drop-in
programs are generally from 10:00 a.m. - Noon on
the 1st Saturday of the month, held at Town Center of
the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on the UW
Madison Campus.

Waisman Center Children's Theater
This annual series of performances and activities  
provides family-friendly entertainment one Sunday
each month from Fall through early Spring. WCCT
features a variety of performers- magicians, singers,
dancers, musical groups, "learning is fun"
educators/performers, and professional theatrical

Open Play [or "Open Gym"]
Nearly a dozen places in & around Madison offer
their facilities for 1-2 hours, or even all day for regular
"open gym"  times throughout the week. Admission
charges vary by venue, often dependent on age, from
$4 to $8 and provide equipment to play, slide, jump;
but most importantly a kid-friendly, safe environment
for activity and social interaction (for mom or dad,

Story Time Events
Ever heard of "Kids & Pets Story Time" at Animart? or
"Jammin with Jeremy" at Barnes & Nobles? Find
recurring story time events that often include a craft or
story-themed activity; or special costumed character

Library Activities
Be sure to check out the many wonderful, free, kid-
friendly events throughout the season at your local
library. Activities often include recurring story times,
plus other scheduled crafts, movies & special events.
Nearly every library offers something unique in the
designated children's area, so just hanging out
looking at books or discovering something new can
be a fun, yet peaceful way to spend a cold day!
